Glossary of Terms
Appendicitis
Congenital diaphragmatic hernia – congenital anomaly whereby the intestine is located in the chest.
Congenital intestinal atresia – incomplete development of the intestine.
Gastroschisis – intestines are not covered with a membrane, and are located outside of the abdominal cavity.
Intussusception
Omphalocele – condition in which the viscera are covered, and located outside of the abdominal cavity.
Spina bifida – a birth defect in which the spine is not closed, and protrudes from the body.
Volvulus
